Winter excavator maintenance tips!

Winter excavator maintenance tips!

1、 Choose the appropriate oil

Diesel fuel increases in density, viscosity, and fluidity in cold environments. Diesel fuel is not easily dispersed, resulting in poor atomization and incomplete combustion, leading to increased fuel consumption and decreased efficiency, which can affect the power and economy of diesel engines.

Therefore, excavators should choose light diesel oil in winter, which has a low pour point and good ignition performance. Generally speaking, the freezing point of diesel should be about 10 ℃ lower than the lowest temperature of the local season. Use 0-grade diesel or even 30-grade diesel as needed.

When the temperature decreases, the viscosity of engine oil increases, the fluidity deteriorates, and the friction force increases, resulting in increased resistance to crankshaft rotation, increased wear of pistons and cylinder liners, and difficulty in starting diesel engines.

When selecting lubricating grease, when the temperature is high, it is recommended to choose a thick grease with low evaporation loss; In winter, when the temperature is low, choose oils with low viscosity and thinner consistency.

2、 Don't forget to replenish water during maintenance

When the excavator enters winter, it is also important to replace the engine cooling water with antifreeze with a lower freezing point to prevent damage to the cylinder liner and radiator. If the excavator equipment is stopped for a period of time, it is necessary to empty the cooling water inside the engine. When discharging water, it is important to be careful not to discharge the cooling water too early. When the body is exposed to cold air at high temperatures, it may suddenly shrink and crack easily.

In addition, the remaining water inside the body should be thoroughly drained when draining to prevent freezing and expansion, which can cause the body to crack.

3、 Winter excavators also need to do "preparation activities"

After the diesel engine starts and catches fire, do not immediately put the excavator into load operation. The excavator needs to do preheating preparation activities.

A diesel engine that has not been ignited for a long time may experience severe wear and tear due to its low body temperature and high oil viscosity, making it difficult for the oil to fully lubricate the friction surfaces of the moving parts of the engine. After starting a diesel engine in winter and catching fire, it is recommended to idle for 3-5 minutes, then increase the engine speed, operate the bucket, and let the bucket and stick work continuously for a period of time. When the cooling water temperature reaches 60 ℃ or above, put it into load operation.

Pay attention to keeping warm during excavation

Whether it is winter construction or shutdown for winter repair, attention should be paid to the insulation of key components of the equipment.

After the winter construction work is completed, insulation curtains and sleeves should be covered on the engine, and if necessary, board curtains should be used to block the wind in front of the radiator. Some engines are equipped with oil radiators, and the conversion switch should be turned to the winter low temperature position to prevent oil from flowing through the oil radiators. If the excavator stops working, try to park it in an indoor area such as a garage.
